Are you a new member and are wondering what to do next? Here are some suggestions as to how you can get involved.
If you’re reading this as a new member you might be thinking, what next? There’s plenty of ways to become involved with the local Labour Party – enough for everyone to find something to suit their talents, interests and time available.
It is important to remember that everyone was a new member once – and there can be an intimidating amount of apparent jargon when you first join – but it’s also important to realise that as a new member you won’t be expected to “go it alone”. There will always be experienced members around who will be more than willing to answer questions, so ask a lot!
There are a number of activities that you might enjoy:
- stuffing envelopes is not only important, but is also a surprisingly relaxing social activity – and you’ll get to know people pretty quickly;
- canvassing is a fantastic way to get to know your area and to make you feel part of the community. We are really lucky to have active councillors, which makes canvassing incredibly rewarding;
- come to ward meetings, join in policy discussions and contribute ideas;
- become involved as a delegate to our General Meetings, where you will meet and discuss topics with members from across the constituency.
The Party is always open to suggestions on how members can make a contribution so please, get in touch with your ward organiser or contact us through social media to introduce yourself.
We look forward to meeting you.
